POEM: "What must be Would be"

Feeble and wrinkled,
at age hundred he dwindled
in frame and strength
but what he lacked most was breath-
had he the breath of another's yawn
he would have escaped death that dawn
for that am certain and I will also not marvel
should this be your fate as his was-
a man whose face
my memory holds: it fails to dwindle.

Our fears are greatly
fed by the unknown:
rarely by the common
things and this is true of man-
even liquor would but for a period
leave us feeling secured
yet when all is done
what must be would be,
undoubtedly,

one of such is death
but I am not afraid of death
if am allowed to say
although that would not be
my first choice
if am to choose today
because I am less poised
but what must be would be
and one of such is death after birth.

"Awake": Nduom Tells Ghanaians.

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom:

Below is the full Easter message from flagbearer of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom:

“Awake Together, This Easter...Let us together bury hate-filled politics, tribalism, and corruption; and cause a renewal of the Ghanaian spirit, a new birth of a nation endowed with tremendous natural resources.

“Let those manufacturing artificial security crises see the light and stop it.

“Let those fanning the flames of politically-induced conflict, tension and violence understand that when the state becomes weakened, we go down, all of us.

“This Easter, let us all be awake, allow the sun to throw light on what is good in all of us, what is positive in our nation and what will make Ghana, Great and Strong.”

POEM: "VANITY"

"Vanity"

After you’ve gained it all,
gathered for yourself earthly treasures
greater than an empire
and satisfied your lust beyond Solomon’s pleasures,
be tempted not in your ‘wise’ eyes that you stand tall:
not even against what men have station.
Take heed lest you return not
from the fool’s pride
that what is the use of a man’s wealth if not
mansions, liquor and on his side
over a thousand vaginas to conquer:
which is often a mad man’s position.

Alas, the Mighty Hand folds all
your ages sweat and toil
and your remains
which you fattened with proteins
whilst you lived
be left to the earth’s worms
and worse your soul be vanquished
beyond noticeable forms.

I fear less because calm
await me should I be done and gone
but until then
I gaze and cling to the Light and when
the trumpet shall sound and time
shall be no more and none
as clay escape not the potter's palm
shall escape the Maker
when the roll is called up yonder.

Be in the known that after you’ve gained it all
and as Silas Manner hoarded earthly treasures,
the Mighty hand folds it all
and He shall turn into ashes your many pleasures.

LETTER: OccupyGhana To Sue Over Ghana@59 Error-ridden Brochure.

"...There is more to this matter than meets the eye..."

Read Letter Below:

Lawyer and member of OccupyGhana, Ace Ankomah.

11th March, 2016

Attorney-General & Minister of Justice
Attorney-General's Department and Ministry of Justice
Accra

Minister of Communications
Ministry of Communications
Accra

The Chief of Staff
Office of the President
Flagstaff House
Accra

Dear Madam & Sirs:

RE: PRINTING OF 59TH INDEPENDENCE DAY BROCHURES – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION/NOTICE OF INTENTION OF CIVIL ACTION

OccupyGhana is composed of citizens of Ghana who are interested in ensuring good governance in Ghana, and are committed to the principles of freedom, justice, probity and accountability, as are enshrined in the preamble to Ghana's Fourth Republican Constitution. As citizens of Ghana, we are also mindful of our constitutional duty under article 41(f) of the Constitution "to protect and preserve public property and expose and combat misuse and waste of public funds and property."

We have closely followed the matters surrounding the printing of brochures for the 59th Independence Day Celebrations (“the Brochures”), and which have culminated in the relieving from office of Mr. Francis Arthur as the acting Director of the Information Services Department, and the placing of the Flagstaff House Communications Bureau under the authority and supervision of the Ministry of Communication.

As citizens of this country, we are not satisfied that this is the end of the matter. We believe that there is more to this matter than meets the eye, and that there is more information that the people of Ghana deserve to have, with respect to this matter. We are fortified in this belief by Article 21(1)(f) of the Constitution which provides that "[a]ll persons shall have the right to... information, subject to such qualifications and laws as are necessary in a democratic society." We are not aware of any restrictions and laws essential to democracy that prevent citizens from being informed of all the facts surrounding this matter. We also respectfully assert that there is no conceivable public interest privilege that applies to deny us access to that information. We also have cause to believe that part of the undisclosed circumstances surrounding this matter may amount to corruption, and the misuse and waste of public funds.

On the bases of the foregoing, we write to you to request information from you, based on the following questions:

1. Which company or companies was/were invited to submit bids for the publishing, production and/or printing of the Brochures? May we have copies of any relevant letters or other communication?

2. Were any quotations received from the company or companies, and if so, may we have copies of such quotations and their covering letters, if any?

3. Which public procurement procedure was adopted in selecting the winning bid? If it was single-source procurement was the approval of the Public Procurement Authority ("PPA") sought? May we have a copy of any letter requesting approval and all attachments to it?

4. Was the PPA’s approval obtained, and if so, may we have a copy of any letter to that effect?

5. Was a contract entered into with the company with the winning bid, and if so, may we have a copy of the signed contract?

6. Has the Ministry of Finance been requested to release funds for payment to the company with the winning bid, and if so, may we have a copy of any such letter?

7. Did the Ministry of Finance approve of any payment in writing, and if so, may we have a copy of that written approval?

8. Have any payments been made to the company that undertook the transaction, and when? May we have copies of all the usual, relevant documents, including, but not limited to: (i) request for payment by the Ministry, (ii) release letter from the Ministry of Finance, (iii) Controller and Accountant-General's letter to the Bank of Ghana for payment, (iv) payment advice from Bank of Ghana, and (v) any payment vouchers issued?

9. Were any taxes paid or withheld, as the case may be, particularly with respect to withholding tax, value added tax and the national health insurance levy, and if so, may we have copies of any relevant invoices?

Considering the urgency surrounding this mater, we respectfully request that you supply the information requested herein within three (3) working days of the date of this letter, failing which you should consider this letter as the written Notice of Intention of Civil Action under section 10 of the State Proceedings Act, 1998 (Act 555), effective as at the date hereof.

Yours in the service of God and Country

POEM: "Distance"

Here we are far from each other
cut from each other
by land and the deep blue sea
and at my back I can hear
a contender lure you from my hand -
that's my fear yesterday and another
but I trust your true honor and virtue
shall always be steady and fresh as the dew.

Dear had we enough time and less distance
I would love you long before the world began
and upon your beauty I shall continue to gaze
until the world be done
even then I shall not alter my stance,
reminded of your youthful hue and face.
This I hold with a fist and shall always praise.
Know my love for you is without an iota stain
but distance can kill with a lot of pain.

Gaveston, refuse my contender's plea,
as Joseph take to your heels and flee
else your past-fate you shall relive in awhile
as this is my fear that I
should lose you in Gaveston's style
and my pain should be more than losing an eye.
but we must not give up still
whilst we pleasure ourselves with kisses from our letters
we send to each other no matter the weather.
Hold up but for awhile
because I come for you in due time,
We will tear our passions in a rough ride
and roll our lips together as strong as the tide.
Indeed distance can kill
but we must remain still

Oye Lithur Express Affection For Shatta Wale.

Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, Tuesday [today] reiterated her unwavering affection for Ghanaian producer and reggae-dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr aka Shatta Wale.

"[Kaikai is] creative, energetic and infectious...I like Shatta Wale", she intimately expressed and sounded almost passionate during an interview on Tuesday at Accra-based Citi FM with Bernard Avle.

This follows criticisms from some Ghanaians after she choreographed to Shatta Wale's hit song ‘Kaikai’ at her 50th birthday bash.

Nana Oye Lithur relished her good-old-days as an ex-hockey player at the University of Ghana, Legon,  but rather expressed disappointment about why people criticized her performance. “I am disappointed that people were [disappointed]”, she decried.

The former human rights advocate organized a plush party to celebrate her 50th birthday at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra earlier this year.

She was seen in what appeared to be a glittering gold spaghetti jumpsuit and backed by two dancers, lip-synched and performed to Shatta Wale’s addictive hit song 'Kaikai'.
