In Words:Ex-Gitmo Prisoners allay the fears of Ghanaians.
State media, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation on Monday interviewed one of the two Yemini Ex-Guantanamo Bay prisoners, Mahmud Bin Atef on Uniiq FM.
"In the name of Allah, we want to thank the president and the good people of Ghana for [their] decision...they made for accepting us.
We have been wrongly arrested for 14 years without any charge against us. We have suffered but we are not looking for revenge because we are not bitter. We want to live in Ghana in quiet and peacefully. And we want to put our lives together.
We couldn't go back to our country because [of] the conflict situation there. We hope and we will [conform] to [go] back again to our country.
And we are heavy for the warm reception that Ghana is known for. And we are looking for [a] very normal, good life and also I like Ghanaian people. They are very very good people and they are very polite.
I was very exciting[ted] when [they] came to tell me that okay I was going to go to Ghana. We [were] very exciting[ted].
We know some things about Ghana. First of all Asamoah Gyan. We know him. We like him very much. Not just us. Most of [the] people they like him. Other detainees they like Ghanaians.
As I [taught] someone here at 2010...the World Cup...I can say all of us, we were with Ghana..."
